Annalee dolls are a line of handmade soft-sculpture dolls created by Annalee Thorndike, who founded Annalee Mobilitee Dolls Inc. in 1934. The dolls are made from muslin and foam and are designed to be poseable. Thorndike began making the dolls as a hobby in the 1930s, and they quickly gained popularity. In the 1940s, she started a small business making the dolls, which she ran out of her home in New Hampshire. The dolls became widely known in the 1950s, and the company grew rapidly.
